Cruising is one of my passions. Since getting hooked on my first voyage I have been fortunate enough to have spent more than 150 nights on board various cruise lines, travelling through Europe, the Mediterranean, the Baltic Sea, the Canary Islands, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, the Middle East, South East Asia and the South Pacific.
Back on land, living in Europe for 15 years provided me wonderful opportunities to travel extensively throughout the region. Beautiful landscapes, extensive history, distinctive architecture and interesting cultures combine to create very rich vacation experiences. As an honorary “local”, I bring personal insight to even the simplest European excursion.

I recently returned from an unforgettable adventure on Safari in Tanzania. We were about to visit Arusha, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, through some of the most iconic wildlife-rich regions in East Africa. We landed at Kilimanjaro Airport where we were greeted by our guide. We were transferred to our hotel in Arusha, where we spent two days acclimatizing before journeying out on safari. Arusha is known as the gateway to Tanzania's northern circuit. Arusha offers a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding national parks. The safari began on the way to Lake Manyara National Park, situated at the base of the Great Rift Valley. We ventured out on our first game drive. This gave us a taste of what was still in store as the week progressed. The park is known for its diverse landscapes, ranging from the lush groundwater forest to the open savannah and the sparkling shores of Lake Manyara itself. While exploring the park, we spotted a variety of wildlife, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys and a myriad of bird species. We continued on for a two nights stay at Ngorongoro Crater a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Africa. This massive volcanic caldera hosts an astonishing concentration of wildlife within its walls. As we descend into the crater's floor, we were be greeted by an abundance of animals, such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, buffaloes, and numerous other herbivores. The crater is also home to the Maasai people, who have lived in harmony with the wildlife for generations. We had the opportunity to visit a Maasai village and experience their rich cultural traditions. After leaving the Ngorongoro Crater, we made our way to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, an epitome of the African safari experience. Spanning over 14,750 square kilometers, the Serengeti is vast and teeming with wildlife year-round. We were fortunate to have experienced the famous annual Great Migration, where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles follow the cycle of rainfall in search of fresh grazing lands. This extraordinary natural spectacle is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that captures the essence of the African wilderness. While in the Serengeti, we had the opportunity to spot the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), as well as other predators like cheetahs and hyenas. After two days at the Crater we drove on to the Serengeti.The park is especially famous for its tree-climbing lions, a unique behavior that can be observed if you're lucky. It also boasts rich bird life, diverse landscapes ranging from open plains to riverine forests, and an overall atmosphere of raw, untamed beauty.Three nights in the Serengetti left us wanting for more. Throughout the safari in Tanzania, we were accompanied by a very experienced guide who possessed deep knowledge of the local ecosystems. He provided valuable insights and spotted wildlife long before we ever could. He ensured our safety while respecting the natural habitats and conservation efforts in place. One of the highlights of the safari was hot air ballooning over the Serengeti. Lifting off at 6:30am to a breathtaking sunrise over the plains. This gave us an unbelievable vantage point to viewing hippos, crocodile, jackals, giraffe, and the migrating Wildebeest.
A safari is an ever-changing experience, and wildlife sightings can vary. However, the wonders of Tanzania's national parks and the untamed beauty of its landscapes have undoubtedly left me with cherished memories, a profound appreciation and forever connected to Tanzania.
As I checked the safari off my bucket list believing it was a one and done, I realized that this is only the beginning of experiencing safaris throughout Africa.
